Bethany offers Adult Sunday School classes to come to know more about the God who created us and showed us the way to life, came to us in Jesus to save us from the power of sin and death, and remains with us through the Spirit to help us, and to be Christ’s body, doing his work in the world.

Perspectives Class

The Perspectives is a group of 20-somethings, 30-somethings and 40-somethings gathered to discuss issues of faith in current events.  We discuss specific faith topics, family stuff, relevant books and movies, and other issues de jour.  We're currently discussing the paperback study series "Caffeine and Christ."

Seasons of the Spirit

The class seeks to make the Sunday worship service more meaningful by discussing the bible texts used in worship each Sunday and relating them to issues of life and faith. The Seasons of the Spirit curriculum is used. Our discussions are lively because they are connected to real issues in life. This class is located in the lower level of the new addition on the north (back) side (the classroom is currently labeled "Pathfinders").

Upper Room Class

It has been almost 36 years since Rev. Donald Powers decided to form a class that would be for young couples and singles. After trying out several names, such as "the Young Adult Class" and "Pairs and Spares" -- the second of which sounded too much like a bowling league -- the group adopted the name "Upper Room Class" since they met in the then-new space above the office addition.

The group celebrates the joys of life, like graduations, the weddings of their children, and "oh'ing and ah'ing" over the latest photos of grandchildren.  The members of the group extend an invitation to come and try out the class.   Most Sundays, the class uses the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum, which is based on the lectionary texts for the day, reading the scriptures and discussing how they apply to our lives today.
